Continental Waterways
Barging In France!
What a relaxing rewarding rejuvenating way to sample a big slice of the French experience! No wonder so many people are devoted to barging. We had a wonderful time lazily drifting down picture book waterways stopping in charming villages anchoring along scenic waterways enjoying quality days sightseeing on a private Continental Waterways bus (following us the entire cruise) accompanied by our own on-board cultural guide, Vivienne Gautier. A delightful, well-informed Sorbonne-educated young woman, Vivienne managed to answer all our questions the vast majority right on site. And, what sites magnificent chateaux colorful markets in quaint towns art museums ancient abbeys soaring cathedrals local vineyards (and private wine tastings). Dining on board? A gastronomic adventure, in many courses, prepared by chefs all trained in top French schools. Wines, both red and white, matched perfectly to the gourmet cuisine. Add to this a charming and comfortable cruising vessel, an excellent crew (one to each three passengers) well trained and eager to please, passengers totaling a convivial 20 to 51 depending on the size of the barge and we found ourselves with a uniquely pleasing vacation palette tough to beat.
Continental Waterways offers the largest fleet of custom barges with ten different itineraries. All vessels are air conditioned throughout with private wood paneled, windowed staterooms and private bath - attractively furnished with twin beds, armoire, drawers and desk. All barges feature a spacious saloon, dining area and bar seating and outdoor seating on deck.
